The upcoming mahindra Thar 5-door will also continue to have the same 2.2-litre diesel (128 HP) and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (150 HP) engine options.
Mahindra Thar
Mahindra has so far introduced its popular SUV Thar only with a 3-door layout. But now the company is working on a 5-door version of this lifestyle SUV to further increase its practicality and attract more buyers. Testing models of Thar 5-door have been spotted several times across the country. Although it was covered with tax every time, some detail is coming to the fore every time.
What did you see in the spy photos?
Recently, a testing mule of mahindra Thar 5-door has been spotted during testing, which has revealed its new LED headlights this time. Halogen headlamps are seen in the 3-door Thar, however, this testing model of the 5-door Thar is equipped with an LED unit with a ring-shaped DRL. While the design of the alloy wheels also looks slightly different from the one seen on the Thar 3-door.
Design
The 5-door model of this SUV will likely be offered only with a hard-top, while the 3-door model is also offered with a convertible soft-top option. The 5-door model will be positioned above the 3-door model in the company's lineup, which is probably why these testing models have been captured with many new features compared to the existing Thar. The previous prototype also revealed features like a new headliner, a front armrest, a sunglasses holder, and an electric sunroof.
Powertrain
The upcoming mahindra Thar 5-door will also continue to be offered with the same 2.2-litre diesel (128 hp) and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (150 hp) engine options, which will be offered with both automatic and manual transmissions. Apart from this, the 5-door version of the SUV is also likely to get an optional 4x2 configuration along with 4x4. The ex-showroom price of the 3-door Thar currently ranges between Rs 10.98 lakh to Rs 16.94 lakh, while the 5-door Thar will be priced higher than this. After launch, it will compete with maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming 5-door Force Gurkha.
