The bjp protested with matches in coimbatore, demanding that temples be open on all days. To prevent the spread of corona, devotees are prohibited from visiting temples on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. On major special days, temples have also been subjected to certain limitations. In this background, some 200 bjp workers protested near the Tandu mariamman temple on Avinashi Road in coimbatore yesterday, demanding that temples be open every day.

Women brandishing matches and flinging wasps took part in the demonstration, which was headed by coimbatore South mla Vanathi Srinivasan. They also hoisted placards that read, "Tasmag is permitted to open," "Schools are allowed to open," and "Temples are not allowed to open." They also vented out slogans against the ruling DMK government and demanded temples should be opened 24/7.

Tamil Nadu bjp President K.Annamalai said, "DMK is doing petty politics by playing against the sentiments of Hindus and they intentionally have closed the doors of temples and are not allowing people to enter the places of worship." He further added that the people would teach DMK a good lesson in the recently concluded local body elections and DMK would lose by a huge margin.
