Stagnant rainwater.. Rotten paddy crops .. Nagapattinam farmers shed tears...

Even third day in Nagapattinam rainwater was stagnant. Farmers shed tears of grief to Additional Chief Secretary Athulya Misra, who inspected the flood damage, claiming that the non-removal of encroachments was the reason for the lack of rainwater. Abdul Misra, Additional Chief Secretary, and Chairman, tamil Nadu electricity Finance and Basic Development Corporation visited the flood-affected areas in Nagai district today. He visited the submerged young samba crops in the Thirupoondi area of Nagai district and asked the farmers about the impacts.

Farmers complained to the authorities that the occupation in the canals had not been removed because the fields had not been drained of rainwater for three days. Then the farmers took the submerged crops and showed in tears that they were rotting.

Following this, Additional Chief Secretary Athulya Misra told reporters that all work on flood damage in the Nagai district was being expedited and that work on the flood damage would begin soon and that details of the crop damage would be known and recommended to the government in a couple of days. All departmental officers including Nagai district Collector Arun Thamburaj were present during the inspection.

Meanwhile, 22 National Disaster Rescue Forces from Hemisphere led by commander PK Sharma have arrived in Nagapattinam.
