Kurup, a criminal drama starring Dulquer Salmaan, was released today, november 12th, to positive reviews from both audiences and reviewers. Kurup, on the other hand, has found himself in legal difficulty after a complaint was filed against the film at the kerala High Court. According to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the film may infringe on Sukumara Kurup's privacy rights, as the tale is inspired on him.

A petition has been submitted to the court to prevent the movie's release. In response to the PIL, the kerala High court ordered notifications to the Centre, the State Government, Interpol, and movie makers. The judge, however, has not issued a stay of execution for the movie's distribution. The Dulquer Salmaan-starrer had already made headlines for 'glamorising' a felon.

In the film, DQ plays Sukumara Kurup, a conman who killed another artist in the 1980s to collect insurance money for his own demise. For decades, he has eluded capture. indrajith Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala, Anupama Parameswaran, and Sivajith Padmanaaban all play pivotal parts in Kurup. DQ had previously shared the film's release date, writing, "To pull it together, we as a team have battled numerous fights both inside and externally. To be able to do it justice. To take care of it and nourish it. As it evolved from a notion to a giant in my eyes, it became greater and greater every day."
