The mother of an unnao rape victim has been nominated by the congress to run in the UP assembly elections. The bjp had harmed "Unnao's girl," according to Congressman rahul Gandhi. He tweeted, "Now she [the rape survivor's mother] will be the data-face of justice." kuldeep singh sengar, an expelled bjp mla, was convicted of raping a teenaged girl in 2017 and sentenced to life in prison in 2019.
The unnao rape case garnered global news after a rape survivor tried self-immolation outside Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's residence to protest alleged police inaction. Kuldip Sengar's father was detained under the Arms Act shortly after the allegations against him became public. He died in police custody as a result of claimed mistreatment. In connection with the death of the unnao rape survivor's father, kuldeep singh sengar was convicted to ten years in prison and fined Rs ten lakh in 2020.
A truck rammed into the car in which the unnao rape survivor was travelling with other family members and her lawyer in July 2019. She was on her way to meet her uncle in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, from Unnao. Three persons were killed in the crash, including the lawyer. She was evacuated from a lucknow hospital to AIIMS for better care because she was in serious condition. In her statement to the CBI, the unnao rape survivor stated that former bjp mla kuldeep singh sengar was behind the accident because he wanted to kill her.
