The overwhelming popularity of the chalo vijayawada rally, which drew thousands of andhra pradesh state public employees on Thursday, surprised both the congress PARTY' target='_blank' title='ysr congress-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>ysr congress party's top officials and the state administration. The police advised the state that they had taken every precaution to keep the personnel from landing in Vijayawada. Several district-level workers' leaders were arrested and held in police detention; others were placed under house arrest; and those who visited vijayawada were also arrested and held in police detention.

The police determined to have erected roadblocks throughout the city so that the employees would not be allowed to penetrate vijayawada from any direction. The BRT road where the protest was due to take place was roped off, and authorities erected CCTV cameras to monitor the employees' movements. Despite this, thousands of people have been able to assemble in the city and stage a protest at BRT Road as planned.

Home minister M Sucharita and local govt consultant Sajjala ramakrishna Reddy, who had previously stated that the government would not let the protest, afterwards attempted to cover up the lapses by claiming that no obstacles had been erected. Investigations indicated that police officers had aided and abetted the agitating employees. The police police officers themselves were observed directing the workers to the rally venue, according to a local reporter from Vijayawada.
