Bhubaneswar Bagel, the chief minister of chhattisgarh, has requested a tax exemption for the film "The kashmir Files." He is the first non-BJP state chief minister to request that the film be exempt from all taxes. The film 'Kashmir Files,' based on the attack on Hindu Pandits in kashmir in the 1990s and the Pandits' departure following terrorist warnings, was released last week. Anupam Kheer, Mithuun Chakraborty, Pallavi Jossh, and Darsshan Kumar feature in the film.
In this backdrop, the bjp has been lobbying for tax exemptions for the film, which depicts the plight of Kashmiri Pandits, in various states. In this context, maharashtra bjp MLAs urged that chief minister Uttam thackeray grant the film a tax exemption. rajasthan bjp MLAs have also asked the state congress government for a tax exemption. The film had previously been tax-free in the BJP-ruled states of Haryana, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
This is the first time a state chief minister who is not a member of the bjp has requested a tax exemption for the film. bhubaneswar Bagel is the chief minister of Chhattisgarh. "The Union government should eliminate the central GST on the film 'The kashmir Files' and allow it to be screened tax-free across the country," he said as the chief minister of chhattisgarh on behalf of the congress party.
