Diesel goes up by Rs 25 per litre!
Petrol- diesel price updates Now the price of diesel has gone up by Rs 25 per litre. But the increase will be for consumers who buy large quantities of petrol. diesel prices were hiked by Rs 25 on sunday for large users of public transport such as buses, trains, industries, airports and malls. This has led to a 27% increase in the operating costs of such users, sources in the oil marketing companies said. The recent rise in global crude oil prices is a result of the Russia-Ukraine war.
For the general public in Mumbai, the price of diesel has remained unchanged at Rs 94.14 per litre for the 136th day in a row, while the price of petrol has remained stable at Rs 109.98 per litre.
Diesel hike hits railwaysIn addition to public transport buses, the railways will also be affected to some extent by the fare hike. This is because diesel engines are widely used in railways. According to a senior Central Railway official, in 2021-22, huge savings of Rs 88 crore have been made on electric diesel.
Many industries will be affected-Large-scale diesel-consuming industries will be affected, as rising input costs could push up commodity production prices. Malls and airports will be hit by the increase as they use large quantities of diesel to generate backup power, sources said.
BEST general manager lokesh Chandra said that as BEST's costs would increase by 27 per cent, it would put a strain on the transport sector. We are trying to phase out diesel vehicles and focus on low-cost buses, "he said." BEST has 185 single-decker buses and 45 double-decker buses running on diesel.
A senior st Corporation (MSRTC) official said that more than 18,000 of its buses run on diesel, but plans to switch to cng and electric buses to reduce operational costs in the future. We will not increase any fares and to reduce our costs we will send as many buses as possible to retail diesel pumps where fuel is cheaper.
For the best diesel-powered bus, the cost per km is Rs 40, which will now be around Rs 50. The cost for a cng bus is Rs 26 per km and for the electric bus, it is Rs 9 per km.
