Bachchhaan Paanday, Akshay Kumar's most recent film, did not fare as well as expected at the box office. The film failed to break the 50 crore barrier by the end of week one, a figure far lower than most of Akshay's recent blockbusters. The main reason for this was the popularity of The kashmir Files at the time. In a recent interview, Akshay stated that the popularity of The kashmir Files had an impact on his film's results, but that he was still pleased with it.

Bachchhan Paandey grossed Rs. 47 crore in its first week. The kashmir Files, which stars Akshaay Kumar, earned 120 crore at the same time, entirely outperforming the Akshaay Kumar-starrer in all territories. vivek Agnihhotri's film The kashmir Files is based on the flight of Kashmiri Pundits from the Region in 1991.

When Akshay was asked about it, he remarked, "First and foremost, let me express my delight at The kashmir Files' achievement. It demonstrates the power of film and the fact that there is no one-data-size-fits-all formula for starting budgets and making movies in a specific style that produces results. It illustrates that audiences are the ones for whom we make films, and when they love anything, it just takes off. Yeah, I would have for Bachchaan Paanday to perform better than it currently does, but I never blame the kashmir files for it. That movie is a hurricane, and we were caught in the middle of it."
