Stop the installation of gas pipelines in Culturable lands

G GOWTHAM
The tamil Nadu Farmers' Union has asked the tamil Nadu government to put a complete halt to the gas pipeline's construction. "Farmers are protesting against GAIL's installation of gas pipelines on farmers' properties," General Secretary Shanmugam stated in a statement. As a result, then-Chief minister Jayalalithaa proclaimed in the assembly that the tamil Nadu government should not organise a referendum and instead implement the proposal through other means.

Pipes that had been put in the fields were also removed. GAIL management is now attempting to put pipelines on farmers' land without their consent in order to implement the scheme. Agriculturalists are fighting back. The public has now joined the campaign after the government forcibly put a pipe on 64 cents of land held by Ganesan (age 42), a poor farmer from Kariyappanalli village, Pennagaram circle, Dharmapuri district.

Farmer Ganesan committed himself by hanging himself for a long time in his neighbor's house. The Gail administration should be held accountable for farmer Ganesan's death. The tamil Nadu government should act in this matter and mandate a complete shutdown of the gas pipeline project. Gail management should compensate the family of deceased farmer Ganesan with Rs 50 lakh. One member of the household should be employed by the government. The tamil Nadu Farmers' Association demands that the chief minister clarify the attitude of the tamil Nadu government on the subject of projects being implemented on arable lands against farmers' preferences.
