Court Orders Removal of Illegal Banners
The chennai high court has ordered that banners installed unlawfully in the pondicherry municipality be removed. According to a lawsuit filed in the chennai high court by Jagannathan, a former leader of the Karikalambakkam panchayat in pondicherry, thousands of banners were illegally erected across the city when Union home minister amit shah visited pondicherry on the 24th of last month. The banners must be removed, he demanded. The pondicherry government said the banners had been removed when the issue came up for hearing in the Chief Justice's session last week. The high court subsequently ordered that the costs of removing the flags be repaid from those responsible.
In light of these circumstances, Justices mahadevan and anandi heard a petition filed on behalf of Jagannathan claiming that the banners had not been removed. 2,500 banners were unlawfully erected in pondicherry on favour of the petitioner at the time. Only banners put on a contract basis by contractors have been deleted. Photographic evidence was submitted claiming that political banners had not been removed.
As a result, the justices who heard the case concluded that illegally placing the banner was contrary to supreme court and high court rulings. They thus adjourned the case, ordering that the banners be removed and that a report on the removal of the banners be filed within two weeks.
