 In this context, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to appoint United National party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the new prime minister and Gotabhaya has been in telephone talks with Ranil Wickremesinghe for about an hour. At the time, Ranil accepted Gotabhaya's demand that he accept the post of prime minister for a short period.


Following this, Ranil Wickremesinghe became the new prime minister of sri lanka today.
As the Sri Lankan parliament convenes on the 16th, 15 ministers are expected to take office tomorrow (May 13) in the new cabinet headed by Ranil.
