Following a supreme court order last month, the Y S jagan Mohan reddy administration on wednesday lifted the suspension of senior IPS officer and former andhra pradesh intelligence chief A B Venkateshwara Rao. Venkateshwar Rao was reinstated from service with retrospective effect from february 8, 2022, according to Chief Secretary sameer Sharma's directives. He was told to report to the Department of General Administration until further orders.
The order stated that starting february 8, the former state intelligence will receive full pay and benefits. The supreme court ruled on april 22 that Venkateshwara Rao's suspension should be revoked and that he be reinstated to his position immediately chevalier. A supreme court division bench comprised of Justice A M Khanwilkar, Justice Abhay S Oka, and Justice C T ravi Kumar dismissed the state government's special leave plea contesting the high court's ruling quashing his suspension.
The state administration also requested that Venkateshwar Rao's suspension be extended, stating that a suitable order from the Centre was expected. The supreme court bench, on the other hand, believed that keeping the suspension in place for more than two years was against natural justice principles. The supreme court bench ruled that Rao could not be placed on suspension for more than two years and ordered that he be reinstated into service immediately. The supreme court also ruled that Venkateshwara Rao is eligible for salary and benefits beginning february 7, 2022, the conclusion of his suspension period.
