D Block Movie Review - A Gripping Campus Thriller
Together with his buddies, a young engineering student solves the mystery surrounding his institution, where several females go missing and die. Due to his prior success in these genres, Arulnithi typically raises expectations when he decides to do thriller and horror movies. Although D Block belongs in the same category, it is highly debatable whether it measures up to his earlier performances in this instance.
The movie opens with a little girl being taken captive and subjected to abuse. Arul, who has travelled to coimbatore to enrol in an engineering college, is presented to us within a short period of time. It's interesting that this tale is set in 2006 at a college in the middle of a thick forest. The students there are cautioned not to leave campus after hours for precisely this reason. However, issues arise when this specific rule is broken. When Swathi, a Bharatanatyam dancer who is one of Arul's friends, dies, the administration covers it up as a wild animal assault, which brings it to light.
Arul strives to solve the mystery around it as a string of girls die or vanish in a same pattern. The film and the characters lack depth, which is crucial for a genre of this kind even though the plot may seem promising because the creators claim it is based on true events. The issue with D Block is that it renders its opponent unbeatable in every manner, but his narrative is uninteresting and does little to justify his superiority. The threat component is barely hinted at in the first half; instead, we learn more about the students' college lives. The movie keeps its secrets until the intermission before letting them all out in the second half.
As usual, Arulnithi has the potential to carry a mediocre movie, and he has done alright. The romance scenes with Shruthi (Avantika Mishra) are few and don't disrupt the narrative flow of the movie, which is a plus for the female characters in this movie. The supporting cast, which includes Thalaivasal Vijay, Ramesh Khanna, and Karu Palaniappan, fails to spark the interest the movie needs to succeed.
