The government of india declared 15 september 1968 as National Engineer's Day, in fact on this day Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a prominent engineer of his time, was born in a Brahmin family at Muddanahalli, Mysore. It is also abbreviated as MV. Impressed by MV's efforts, the government tried to pay tribute by organizing his birth anniversary as Engineer's Day. Besides being a civil engineer, he was also a politician and served as the 19th Diwan of Mysore.
Started as Assistant engineer in the bombay Public Works Department. He undertook complex projects like the development of krishna Raja Sagar Dam in mysore, the irrigation system in the Deccan Plateau, flood protection system for Hyderabad. Apart from this, many works were done under the civil engineering project. As Diwan of mysore, he established mysore Soap Factory, Bangalore Agricultural University, state bank of mysore, mysore Iron and Steel Works, government Engineering College, and many other industries. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was awarded the Knight commander of the british indian Empire during his lifetime and the country's highest Bharat Ratna after independence.Significance of

Civil engineering is very important for India. india is investing heavily in its infrastructure to put india on the global stage for easy connectivity. Along with civil engineering, india is fast becoming number one in the IT industry. Other forms of engineering like aeronautical, mechanical, chemical, computer, etc. are also needed and important for India's development.


Engineers Day Celebration:
On the occasion of Engineers Day, many programs are being organized near the Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Memorial at his birthplace. The program is organized by Visvesvaraya National Memorial Trust. Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya's awards, titles, and personal belongings are on display. Locals consider this place a temple. Senior ministers and other political leaders of the country paid tribute to him through their speeches.

On this occasion, students from other parts of the country were also sensitized to move forward in this direction and do something for the country. Besides india, Sri Lanka, and tanzania (Africa) also celebrate Engineer's Day on september 15 on this day. Everyone aims to respect the engineers of our country and contribute to nation-building.
