The supreme court of india dismissed a petition to pre-screen and censor OTT content in the nation, providing relief to indian OTT viewers and filmmakers. It questioned how pre-screening panels for web series, movies, or other items that are immediately released on internet streaming platforms could function. Sujeet Kumar Singh, a resident of Mirzapur, filed a petition asking for the establishment of a pre-screening committee for the information that is published on online platforms. The petition was considered by a bench of Chief Justice uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi in the supreme Court.

The magistrate questioned how a pre-screening committee for online series could exist in its declaration. There is a specific piece of legislation. Unless you specify that OTT is also included. You must assert that OTT must be subject to current laws. Because the transmission originates from another nation, numerous issues will be raised. "Despite the fact that viewers may be in this country, OTT satellite transmission originates from other countries. A different post-exhibition redressal method exists. You must be more specific in your petition. File one that is superior," the bench added.

The petitioner also asked the court to impose a moratorium on the Mirzapur online series, claiming that it is harming the reputation of his hometown. The judges also turned down this request. They had previously sought input on the petition from the Centre's Information & Broadcasting ministry, Mirzapur-based streamer Prime Video, and creators Excel Entertainment Pvt. They rejected Sujeet Kumar Singh's argument after being satisfied with their response.
