In the hotly contested byelection on Thursday, 93.13 percent of eligible voters participated. 2,25,192 voters out of a total of 2,41,805 voters cast ballots. Despite the fact that 47 candidates were running, the trs, the bjp, and the congress were the three primary contenders. The trs candidate took a lead in the first round by more than 1,000 votes, but the bjp candidate took the lead in the second and third rounds to make the race close. However, the trs kept the advantage starting in the fourth round and kept it through the fifteenth and final round.

Rajagopal reddy gave up after the tenth round, when it was obvious that the trs would prevail. He yet asserted that he had won on a moral level and dubbed the trs triumph as "unethical." He said that the trs employed voter intimidation tactics and abuse of government resources to win. The bjp leaders had earlier complained to Chief Electoral Officer Vikas raj over the delay in declaring results after each round.

CEO's actions, according to state bjp president Bandi Sanjay, are raising questions. He claimed that only if the trs is ahead are round-wise results announced. G. Kishan reddy, the Union minister for Tourism and Culture, telephoned the CEO and voiced his displeasure about the postponement of the round-wise results announcement. The CEO, however, rejected the criticism and made it clear that transparent counting was taking place. The presence of many contestants, he claimed, was the cause of the delay in the announcement of round-wise results.
