Expressing concern over forced and fraudulent conversions in India, the supreme court has issued key orders. Forced religious conversions in some places are a very serious matter and the central government has suggested that measures should be taken to prevent them. It warned that if such a situation is not prevented, the most critical situations will arise.Eminent lawyer Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay has filed a petition in the supreme court to issue directives to the central and state governments to take strict measures to control forced and fraudulent religious conversions in the country. A bench headed by Justice MR Shah and Justice Hima kohli conducted an inquiry into this on Monday. In this order, directions have been issued to the central and state governments.
The supreme court has commented that forced religious conversions are a very serious issue and suggested that the Center should work sincerely to prevent them. Otherwise we will have to data-face a very difficult situation. The supreme court bench has made it clear that it is an issue affecting the national security and religious freedom, and therefore the central government should take immediate action on it. Moreover, the central government has directed the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to file a counter explaining the steps taken by the Center to prevent forced and fraudulent conversions.
