According to reports, google is preparing for significant layoffs early in the upcoming year, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and google, has reportedly given frightened google employees no assurance that this won't happen. Pichai reportedly said "it's incredibly tough to foresee the future, so regrettably, I can't honestly sit here and make forward-looking commitments" in a company-wide meeting with employees, according to Insider.
According to him, the company is working hard to "make crucial decisions, be disciplined, prioritise where we can, and rationalise where we can" so that it is better prepared to weather whatever comes next. Pichai continued, "I think that's what we should focus on and try and do our best there." google did not respond on the report's details right away. Several Big Tech firms, including Meta, Cisco, Intel, Amazon, and hp Inc., have cut staff or stated that they may do so in the future.
The only surviving Big Tech companies that have not revealed any significant global employment cuts are google and Apple. Pichai has stated that google would limit the rate of recruiting while increasing productivity by 20%. According to a story from last month, Alphabet is preparing to fire 10,000 "low performing" workers, or 6% of the staff. google intends to gradually let go of 10,000 employees through a new ranking and performance improvement plan, according to a story in The Information.
