taj mahal to pay property tax and water tax. So who is the owner of the Taj Mahal..? For the first time in its history, the
agra Municipal Corporation of Uttar Pradesh has issued a notice to the central government-run Archaeological
survey of
india (ASI) to pay Rs 1.9 crore as water tax and Rs 1.5 lakh as property tax to the
taj mahal, a protected monument. A notice has been sent to the

agra Municipal Corporation to pay the dues within 15 days. It has also warned that action will be taken against the property if the tax is not paid within this specified time. Archaeological
survey of
india Superintendent Archaeologist
raj Kumar
patel told reporters about the
agra Municipal Corporation's notice that no property tax will be levied on national monuments. They do not have to pay tax on the water as it has no commercial use. The water is used only to maintain the greenery within the premises around the Taj Mahal.
raj Kumar
patel also said that the water tax and the property tax for the
taj mahal have been collected for the first time, which may have been sent by mistake.
Meanwhile,
agra Municipal Commissioner Nikhil D Funde said he was not aware of any measures or notices related to the
taj mahal tax. Based on the
survey conducted by the state-wide Geographical Information System (GIS) the taxes are calculated and new notices are issued. In this notices are issued to all parties based on the outstanding amount for premises including
government buildings, and religious places of worship.
agra Municipal Commissioner Nikhil de has explained that action will be taken based on their response through a notice sent to the Archaeological
survey of India.
At present taxes are calculated based on the
survey conducted by the Geographical Information System (GIS) in the state of Uttar Pradesh and tax notices are sent to private bodies. It may even be a disorder caused by this. The
taj mahal was declared a protected monument of
india in 1920. And even during the
british rule, no
house or water tax was levied on the monument, say officials of the Archaeological Department of India.
