Joshimath sinking crisis: National disaster?
According to a recent petition submitted to the supreme court of India, the current crisis being experienced by the residents of joshimath, Uttarakhand, could be categorised as a national calamity because Joshimath's ground continues to sink. As the ground continues to fall, joshimath is in a serious crisis. Numerous buildings and houses have cracks on their walls, raising concerns that they could collapse at any moment, displacing hundreds of people.
A seer has petitioned the supreme court to have the problem in joshimath, Uttarakhand, where hundreds of houses have developed cracks, declared a national catastrophe. In his lawsuit, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said that widespread industrialization was to blame for the catastrophe and demanded immediate financial aid and compensation for the residents of Uttarakhand.
Additionally, the National Disaster Management Authority was asked for guidance in order to actively assist the joshimath citizens during this trying time.
Joshimath, one of the most well-known pilgrimage destinations in India, receives thousands of visitors each year. The excessive tourism and construction projects are among the main causes of the town's decline.
In addition, specialists claim that joshimath was built on the site of a long-ago landslide, which means that the earth is unstable and the stones are eroding, making it difficult for nearby construction projects to remain stable.
