Building collapses: At least 4 feared trapped...

On wednesday morning in chennai, a four-story building that was undergoing renovations fell at Armenian Street close to Parry's Corner, trapping at least four people inside. According to officials, 10 workers were working on the renovations when the roughly 75-year-old building collapsed at around 10.45 am on a busy thoroughfare in the northern section of the tamil Nadu capital.

Those who were walking by or standing close to the structure were among the injured and were brought to the government Stanley Hospital. Six employees, according to officials, were able to flee the burning structure.

Rescue efforts for persons stranded beneath the four-story structure are being coordinated by Greater chennai Corporation representatives, police, and fire and rescue personnel. On-site medical teams are also present. Mahesh Kumar, the deputy mayor of the chennai Municipal Corporation, reported that a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had also arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations.

Reporters were told by Gangandeep Singh Bedi, commissioner of the chennai Municipal Corporation, that the structure collapsed during renovations.

"Our top concern is safely removing anybody trapped inside. Currently, the rescue operation is being carried out by four excavators, five fire brigades, about 50 rescue workers, the company, and the police. We believe that there may have been three to four people locked inside. To ensure that the rescue is conducted in a safe manner, we are taking steps like removing rods, the official added.
