PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the tamil Nadu government to provide mental health counseling to those who have lost money in online gambling.

In a statement issued in this regard, he said, "I am deeply saddened to learn that Mariselvam, a private bank employee from Vadhakpathur village near Sankarankoil, tenkasi district, committed suicide due to depression due to loss of money in online gambling and unable to repay the loan. My deepest condolences and sympathies to his bereaved family. I will take it.

It is said that Marichelvam, who was addicted to online gambling, lost money in it and became a debtor of Rs.25 lakh, and after paying off Rs.10 lakh, he was unable to pay the rest of the debt due to depression. His frustration is understandable. But suicide is not the solution. Marichelvam's suicide left her family destitute. Should have fought to recover from debt instead of committing suicide.

Online gambling in tamil Nadu has made lakhs of families indebted. Between august 2021 and the ban on online gambling last April, 49 people committed suicide. Online gambling has been banned as a result of the ongoing protest by the Patali Makkal Party.

No more online gambling addiction, loss of money or suicide. At the same time, those who have already lost money in online gambling need to recover from the mental anguish and suicidal ideation caused by it. For that, the tamil Nadu government should provide mental health counseling to them," he said.
