The public and motorists are facing various problems as the work on Chevvapettai Road Railway flyover, which was started 11 years ago near Tiruvallur, has not yet been completed.
On the Chennai-Arakkonam railway line, the Sev Vappettai Road railway station is located near Tiruvallur. The crossing near this railway station was often closed due to the daily passage of more than 100 electric trains, express trains going to foreign states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and cargo trains.
Due to this, the public, commuters and students from more than 10 villages including Chevvappet, Tiruvur, Thosvuurkuppam, Aranvail were unable to reach their workplaces, schools and colleges in chennai, Poontamalli, Thiruvallur, Perumbudur and other areas on time.
Due to this, the public has been insisting for a long time that a railway flyover should be constructed near Chevvapettai Road railway station. As a result, it was decided in 2011 to build a railway flyover in collaboration with the Southern Railway and the State Highways Department. It is said that the railway crossing was removed that year and the railway administration completed the work within 2 years after starting the work of constructing a flyover in the area owned by the railway.
Subsequently, the State Highway Department started construction of a flyover at a cost of around Rs 20 crore in 2015 to connect Chevvapet and Tiruvur. In the process, the work of constructing a flyover in Tiruvur area on one side of the crossing has been largely completed.

At the same time, there is a problem in the acquisition of land required for flyover work in Chevvapettai Road, another side of the flyover. The owners of those lands filed a case in the madras high court claiming that the compensation amount for their acquired land was insufficient.
As a result, while about 60 percent of the work in the area has been completed, the work of constructing the flyover has been shelved.
In this case, a year ago, despite the cases against the flyover work being over, the highways department has not yet started the work.
In this way, the public and motorists are facing various hardships every day as the Chevvapettai Road Railway flyover work, which was started 11 years ago, has not yet been completed.
