Land grab case: All accused including minister Ponmudi acquitted

A special court has ordered the acquittal of all the accused including minister Ponmudi in the land grabbing case.

It was alleged that Ponmudi, who is the minister of Higher education of tamil Nadu, had been working to expropriate 3,630 square feet of government-owned land in srinagar North Colony, Saitappet, chennai between 1996 and 2001. In particular, it was alleged that Ponmudi misused his authority and evicted Kannan, an illegal resident of the place, by preparing forged documents, registering the place in the name of Ponmudi's mother-in-law Saraswati and constructing a building there at a cost of Rs 35 lakh.

In this regard, the anti-bribery police conducted an investigation and registered a case against Ponmudi, her mother-in-law Saraswati, Saidai Kittu and 10 others in 2003. The trial of this case took place in the special court that hears criminal cases against MPs and MLAs in the district Collectorate office premises, Chennai. Judge G. Jayavel ruled in this case today. According to this, no documents have been filed by the Anti-Corruption Department regarding the allegations against seven persons including minister Ponmudi, Deputy Mayor of chennai Corporation; He said that all the charges were not proven and that they would be released.
