Strict Action on Manipur Criminals will bring Hope says Kerala Governor

Then a question was raised about the Manipur issue.

Responding to that, he said: "It is very shameful that law and order is broken not only in Manipur but in any part of the country, especially violence against women. But the real test is that it is happening. But the real test is what action is taken against the criminals.

What matters here is whether strict action is taken against the culprits or not. But there is hope among the people. It happens automatically when you let your government machinery work. I think that is happening". He said.

What Happened?: A gruesome video of two women belonging to the Kuki tribe in Manipur state being stripped naked and paraded through the streets by a gang of Maithei men on May 4 has sent shockwaves across social media. One of the two women was also a victim of gang rape. Based on the video evidence, which runs for about 26 seconds, four people have been arrested among those who took the women naked and took them on a procession. The video, taken in May, was shared on July 19 after the internet ban was lifted in the state and caused a stir.

Manipur Violence: Clashes started on May 3 between the Maithei community and the Kuki community in Manipur. So far 142 people have died in the riots that have been going on for more than 2 months. More than 500 people were injured. 65,000 people have lost their homes and become refugees. It is noted that 5,995 cases have been registered so far.

53 percent of Manipur's population is Maithei. Mostly they live in Imphal plains. 40 percent of the tribal population includes Nagas, Kukis etc. It is noteworthy that they mostly live in hilly districts.
