Chandrayaan 3 : How hot is the Moon's South Pole?

The Chandrayaan-3 rover from india has begun exploring the soil that is found at the south pole of the moon. On Sunday, august 27, isro tweeted (X) about the subject. chandrayaan 3 reportedly conducted the first-ever soil probe of the Moon's south pole in the annals of space science, according to ISRO. It had a temperature difference of up to 10 cm below the surdata-face.

"This is the initial occasion that temperature profiling of the lunar soil around the south pole is being done," isro wrote in a tweet (X), "as it is the first time a country has made a soft landing on the south pole of the moon." A graph showing soil temperature was also released by ISRO. The graph's temperature ranges from -10 degrees Celsius to over 50 degrees Celsius.

The most recent update was provided by ISRO

The ChaSTE payload measures the temperature profile of the upper soil around the pole of the moon in order to comprehend the thermal behaviour of the lunar surdata-face, according to the space agency. It is equipped with a temperature probe that descends 10 cm below the surdata-face. isro claimed that it has 10 different temperature sensors for profiling the temperature of the lunar soil. This graph displays the variation in lunar surdata-face temperature. The south pole of the moon has never had a profile like this before. Additionally, more research is being done.
