Karnataka bandh - Section 144 implemented in Mandya district...

A state-wide bandh was declared in karnataka on Friday, two days after Bengaluru experienced a partial shutdown due to the Cauvery River water dispute with tamil Nadu. The bandh, referred to as "Kannada Okkuta" by a collection of pro-Kannada organisations, will last 12 hours from 6 am to 6 pm.

These are the most recent updates on the karnataka bandh:

A state-wide bandh has been called by farmers' organisations and the pro-Kannada group to protest the release of Cauvery River water to tamil Nadu, which is next door. Due to this, the karnataka Police have increased their presence throughout the state to address the situation and prevent any disruptions to law and order. Among other locations in the state, the protesters plan to lead a sizable protest procession from Bengaluru's Town Hall to Freedom Park. A pro-Kannada group called "Kanadda Chaluvali," led by Vatal Nagaraj, stood firm in their demand for a statewide bandh and threatened to block major thoroughfares and airports earlier on Monday. We will protest in front of the raj Bhavan, Nagaraj said.

In the Mandya district of karnataka, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been put in place due to the state-wide shutdown. The city of Bengaluru's administration has granted the day off to all educational institutions. Due to the enactment of the karnataka bandh by several organisations, district deputy commissioner KA Dayananda has ordered a holiday for every educational institution in Bengaluru city in the best interests of the students. All public and private schools, taxi services, shopping malls, and movie theatres could all have their services suspended. Banks, public transportation services like KSRTC and BMTC, as well as critical services like emergency vehicles, pharmacy trucks, healthcare facilities, and health care stores, will all be running as usual.
