The trial of actor Vijay's case against the Income Tax Department's imposition of a penalty of Rs 1.5 crore for concealing the salary of Puli film was held in the High Court. Vijay, who is a leading actor in the tamil film industry, when he filed his income tax return for the last financial year 2016-17, he mentioned that he received 35 crore 42 lakh 91 thousand 890 rupees as income for that year.
Subsequently, the Income Tax Department, which carried out the assessment for that year, searched actor Vijay's house in 2015. Various documents were seized during the raid. On comparing it, it was found that the actor Vijay did not show a salary of Rs 15 crore for the film Puli in his income tax returns.
Subsequently, the Income Tax Department issued an order in june last year imposing a fine of Rs 1.50 crore on actor Vijay due to concealment of income.Actor Vijay filed a petition in the chennai High court against this order of the Income Tax Department. It was mentioned in Vijay's petition that if there was a penalty, it should have been imposed in the year 2019 and now the order issued by the Income Tax Department should be canceled. Subsequently, the court heard this petition and imposed an interim stay on the order issued by the Income Tax Department imposing a fine of Rs 1.50 crore on actor Vijay last year. After this, the Income Tax Department filed a reply and the case came up for hearing again yesterday. Then actor Vijay asked for time. Subsequently, the hearing of this case has been adjourned to october 30.
