Fighting broke out over the shared data-border between israel and lebanon early on Monday. According to the Israeli military, Israeli planes hit two Hezbollah cells in lebanon that were preparing to lob rockets and anti-tank missiles against Israel. Hezbollah said that one of its fighters had died, but it gave no further information. An Israeli airstrike was reported on the southern fringes of Aitaroun, in southern lebanon, by the state-run news agency NNA. It lacked specifics as well.

One cell, according to the Israeli military, was located around 13 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of Aitaroun, close to the Israeli town of Mattat. The other, it alleged, was located in the contested Shebaa Farms region, farther north. According to the military, it hit both cells before they fired.
Whether the two parties were discussing the same instances or not was not immediately apparent. Later on, israel claimed to have hit further Hezbollah targets, including an observation post and a compound. No immediate reports of damage or casualties were made. Iran-supported israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging gunfire at the data-border more often since october 7, when the Palestinian organization Hamas launched a surprise attack on israel, to which israel replied with heavy airstrikes on Gaza.
In response to the battle, which Hezbollah claims has killed at least 27 of its fighters since october 7, israel has decided to evacuate 42 towns along its northern front with Lebanon. According to Lebanese security officials, four civilians and eleven combatants affiliated with Hezbollah-affiliated Palestinian factions in lebanon have died in the data-border region. Israeli military reports state that on Israel's side of the boundary, at least five Israeli troops and one civilian have died.
