Israel's defence minister, Yoav Gallant, promised to launch a "lethal attack" on the besieged Palestinian strip and alluded to the country's intention to conduct a ground incursion as israel increased its airstrikes on multiple targets in Gaza following the Islamist group Hamas' shocking attack on october 7 that resulted in an assault that killed at least 1,400 people.

“The path is a path of unrelenting attacks, damaging Hamas everywhere and in every way…We want to bring Hamas to a state of full dismantling,” Israeli Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi said in a statement.

Amidst the long-running dispute over israel and Palestine's statehood, a number of Western countries supported Israel's "right to self-defence" against Hamas, while US President Joe Biden and UK prime minister Rishi Sunak reiterated the two-state solution.

• For the first time, china recognised Israel's right to defend itself without denouncing Hamas's attack. "All countries have the right to self-defence," Chinese Foreign minister Wang Yi told his Israeli colleague Eli Cohen, adding that nations should uphold international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of people.

• china reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution as a feasible way to resolve the issue, joining the US and UK in doing so. During Yi's visit to Washington, DC, he expressed China's sincere hope that the palestine issue would be resolved in a fair and comprehensive way based on the "two-state solution," and that this would lead to a genuine and comprehensive resolution of all parties' legitimate security concerns.

• Israeli Defence minister Gallant said that his nation is preparing to conduct a ground operation and will be hitting Gaza with a "lethal attack." "We're getting ready very good. This will be a deadly assault. He stated, "It will be a coordinated attack from the air, sea, and land," as reported by Times of Israel.

• During a monday chat with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Joe Biden emphasised the importance of maintaining "a continuous flow" of humanitarian aid into Gaza, according to the White House. Vice President Biden "welcomed the release of two additional hostages from Gaza earlier today, and reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing efforts to secure the release of all the remaining hostages taken by Hamas," according to the White House.
