Why Israel-Hamas war Centered on Gaza's Al-Shifa Hospital?

A five-week-old conflict between the Israeli military and Hamas has focused on Gaza's Al-Shifa Hospital, leaving thousands of people stuck in the biggest hospital in Palestinian territory. The biggest and most well-equipped hospital in Gaza is called Shifa. Israel, meanwhile, asserts that Hamas militants have constructed an underground tunnel system beneath the hospital and have established an operational headquarters for military reasons there.

Israel's military have advanced on Shifa since the militant organization launched a deadly cross-data-border attack last month, prompting the declaration of war against Hamas. Palestinians claim Israeli soldiers have fired at evacuees and that moving the most fragile patients is too dangerous, despite Israel's declaration that it is willing to permit staff and patients to escape.

Information shared with the World health Organization was uploaded on X on Sunday. It shows that there are around 1,500 displaced persons seeking shelter at al-Shifa, in addition to 200–500 inpatients and 200–500 health staff. Doctors report that people are starting to expire and that the institution is out of fuel. The World health Organization (WHO) and other UN organizations issued a warning, stating that up to 3,000 people are taking refuge inside without enough food, water, or fuel. This number includes 600–650 inpatients and 200–500 medical personnel.
