Russia - Ukraine War : Civilian death toll exceeds 10000, claims UN
This covers events in the months following the invasion, such as the fight for control of Mariupol, when inhabitants claimed widespread civilian fatalities.
"Ten thousand civilian deaths is a grim milestone for ukraine," said Danielle Bell, the mission's leader.
"The Russian Federation's war against ukraine, now entering into its 21st month, risks evolving into a protracted conflict, with the severe human cost being painful to fathom," she went on to say.
According to the UN, the great majority of casualties were inflicted by explosive weapons having a wide-area impact, such as shells, missiles, and cluster bombs.
According to the United Nations, about half of the casualties in the previous three months happened distant from the front lines, owing to Russian troops' deployment of long-range missiles and the late explosion of abandoned equipment.
Moscow denies intentionally targeting civilians.
