Cyclone Michaung - 5 Dead As Heavy Rain Submerges Chennai

Live updates on Cyclone Michaung: The majority of chennai is still underwater owing to heavy rain from 'Michaung,' which has escalated into a strong cyclonic storm. The storm, which is now over the Bay of bengal, is expected to make its way to the coast of Andhra Pradesh. Heavy flooding has been reported in low-lying districts of chennai, killing three people and closing the airport till tuesday morning. The storm is scheduled to make landfall between nellore and machilipatnam around 5 a.m. tomorrow.
Cyclone Michaung, which was centered off the coasts of south andhra pradesh and north tamil Nadu on Monday, is expected to cross the south andhra pradesh coast between nellore and machilipatnam on tuesday morning as a severe cyclonic storm, according to the weather department.
"The Severe Cyclonic Storm "MICHAUNG" over Westcentral and adjoining Southwest Bay of bengal off south andhra pradesh and adjoining north tamil Nadu coasts moved N-NW with a speed of 12 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centered at 8:30 am on december 4 over WC Bay of bengal off south andhra pradesh and adjoining north tamil Nadu coasts, about 50 km southeast of nellore, 130 km north of chennai, 180 km south of bapatla and 200 km south-southwest of machilipatnam," read a post on the official X handle of the india Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.

According to news agency ANI, the deep depression over the South Bay of bengal, which has strengthened into cyclonic storm Michaung, is being observed owing to its destructive character and possible effect. The storm claimed five lives in various incidences throughout tamil Nadu's chennai, according to authorities.
