How contenders delayed naming of new Telangana CM ?

Even as telangana congress president A revanth reddy was appointed the state's future chief minister, infighting inside the state party unit has surdata-faced, delaying the selection process. On monday, the freshly elected party MPs delegated the decision to the party's senior command. According to senior party leaders, revanth reddy would be the cm, with two deputies: N Uttam Kumar reddy, a six-time mla and former state unit president, and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the party floor leader in the outgoing house.

"Uttam Kumar reddy staked his claim for the top post, citing seniority and loyalty," claimed a senior congress politician acquainted with the situation. Vikramarka, the party's Dalit data-face, was also a candidate for CM. He has been a member of the congress since the early 1980s and has just completed a state-wide padayatra. As the vote results continued to come in on Sunday, he informed the media that he was ready to take over "if the high command directs."

"The central leadership may opt for one or two deputy CMs to placate the aspirants," a member of the party stated.

Amid competing allegations, AICC observer and karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivkumar traveled to delhi on monday afternoon to meet with the central leadership over the selection of the next chief minister and the makeup of the new cabinet. Previously, he presided over a congress Legislature party (CLP) gathering that overwhelmingly passed a one-line resolution authorizing congress president mallikarjun Kharge to nominate the CLP leader.

"All (newly elected MLAs) have decided that whatever the high command decides, we will go by that," Shivakumar told reporters in hyderabad following the three-hour meeting.

On Sunday, the congress wrote a new chapter in telangana history by crushing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by capturing 65 of the state's 119 seats.

According to a party veteran who did not want to be identified, Shivakumar met separately with Uttam Kumar reddy, Vikramarka and Munugode mla Komatireddy Rajgopal reddy, who is venkat Reddy's brother, at another hotel in the city before to the CLP meeting.

According to a senior congress politician, revanth reddy sponsored a CLP motion authorizing Kharge to choose the next CLP leader, which was backed by prominent MLAs including Vikramarka and D sridhar Babu.

V Hanumantha Rao, a congress lawmaker and former rajya sabha member, has suggested that reddy might be the next chief minister. "Most probably, revanth reddy has chances to become the chief minister going by all the work he did," he was quoted as saying.

Former state minister Konda surekha has also endorsed revanth reddy for the top job. "Reddy is going to take the chief minister's post with the high command's blessing," surekha went on to say.

The leadership squabble brings back painful memories of the party changing four Chief Ministers in the merged andhra pradesh in the early 1980s. This became a significant campaign issue for telugu Desam founder N T Rama Rao, who surged to power nine months after launching the regional party.

Revantha reddy is seen as a "outsider" by certain telangana congress politicians due to his lateral admission into the party from the telugu desam party in 2017. A portion of senior officials almost revolted shortly after his nomination as state party chairman in 2021. The high leadership, on the other hand, remained solid behind him and granted him wide rein in the selection of candidates for the assembly elections and the creation of campaign ideas.

Revanth was effective in infusing fresh energy and vigour into a dormant organisation, and he waged an aggressive campaign centred on the BRS's "corruption and family rule."
