Telangana - TSRTC orders inquiry after bus conductor issues ticket to woman
The telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) took action on sunday against a bus conductor who gave a ticket to a woman in nizamabad district, even though free travel for women has been implemented across the state since Saturday. TSRTC Managing director V. C. Sajjanar tweeted on 'X' after a video of a bus conductor giving a Rs 90 ticket to a lady went viral that an inquiry has been conducted into the issue of a ticket to a woman under the Bodan depot of nizamabad district.
"The concerned conductor was kept in reserve at the depot." "Federal action will be taken against him following the investigation," he added. A person is heard claiming in a video captured on a cell phone aboard a Bodhan-bound bus from nizamabad that the bus conductor distributed tickets to female passengers. The video shows a woman wearing a burka. The conductor is seen justifying his actions as well.
The woman was riding in a Palle Velugu bus, according to the ticket circulated on social media. The new congress administration in the state launched free travel for women on TSRTC buses on Saturday, fulfilling one of the six promises made in the recently ended elections.
Women, girls, and transgenders who are telangana residents can travel for free in TSRTC buses anywhere in the state under the Mahalakshmi initiative. After producing their identity card, they can ride for free on Palle Velugu and Express buses across the state.
On the occasion of sonia Gandhi's birthday, chief minister A. revanth reddy introduced the plan on Friday.
State ministers and congress MLAs inaugurated the project in their respective districts and rode TSRTC buses with women.
Damodar raja Narasimha, minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare, stated that the plan encourages women's empowerment.
