Alaska Airlines plane door blows out mid-air, makes emergency landing
The plane, which was headed to Ontario, was involved in an issue shortly after takeoff and returned to Portland safely at 5:26 p.m. (local time).
"I open my eyes and the first thing I see is the oxygen mask right in front of me," a 22-year-old passenger told the New York Times. And when I glance to the left, the wall on the plane's side has vanished. "The first thing that came to mind was, 'I'm going to die.'"
"I can't imagine what these passengers went through," said Anthony Brickhouse, an air safety specialist. It would have been audible. That cabin would be filled with wind. It was most likely a rather violent and frightening affair."
