The water level in nagarjuna sagar dam has fallen, raising fears about Hyderabad's water supplies. According to a city-based publication, andhra pradesh withdrew 5 tmc of water as allowed by the krishna river Management Board (KRMB), leaving the project with just 18 tmc over the minimum drawdown level (MDML) of 510 feet.
This leaves telangana with only 7 tmc to serve hyderabad, Secunderabad, and the districts of khammam and Nalgonda. hyderabad requires at least 1.6 tmc per month to cover its water requirements. The drinking water supply must be sustained at all costs for at least another six months, from february to July. Notably, krishna river basin projects are known for their late arrival of inflows.
"The state's share of the water available in the present storage of the project will last only till the first half of May," the study went on to say. The article stated that the state administration planned to request 10 tmc of water from karnataka and 30 tmc from the koyna dam in West Maharashtra, but that the proposals had not yet materialized.

Drawing water from the nagarjuna sagar project would become difficult if the water level goes below the Minimum Draw Down Level (MDDL) of 510 feet. To satisfy the irrigation requirements, an approaching canal must be built for gravity-based water extraction from the project.
