Telangana Hyderabad - TSRTC ‘axes’ several trees at Kachiguda depot
According to reports, telangana State Road Transport has destroyed a considerable number of trees at the kachiguda depot, violating the telangana Water, Land, and Trees Act of 2002. According to a story in The Hindu, over 30 trees of various types, including teak, neam, and others, were cut down on the depot grounds without first seeking approval from the Forest Department or a tree conservation committee, as required by law.
Sources said that the logs were stored in a decaying government facility before being auctioned. However, depot manager T raghu denied the charges, stating that just a few branches of some trees were cut since they presented a 'threat to the walls of the facility'. He stated that the decision was made after the committee addressed the issue with all department heads.
When queried about a social media post that included a video recording of the trees being carried, the depot manager stated that authorization was obtained from the Forest Department and was published on a notice board. He stated that the Forest Department has issued challans for the felling of branches totaling Rs 25,000. Stay tuned with us for more updates.
