Telangana - Congress, BRS spar over auto drivers’ welfare in Assembly
During the telangana State Assembly's budget session on Friday, february 9, the ruling congress and the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) argued on the welfare of auto drivers in the region.
During the motion of thanks to the governor's address, Jangaon BRS mla Palla Rajeshwar reddy discussed the struggles faced by auto drivers. He claimed that since the free travel scheme for women and transgender people began in TSRTC buses, 21 auto drivers have died by suicide. He also demanded that the government give their families Rs 20 lakh as an ex gratia.
"6.5 million auto drivers suffer since women may go for free on buses. Very few auto drivers own their cars; most rent their vehicles for Rs 300 per day, plus they have to pay Rs 200 for gasoline. In addition, a lot of people must pay their vehicle loans back, according to Palla Rajeshwar Reddy. He said, "Now, they are killing themselves and have nothing saved for basic needs."
CONGRESS RESPONDS
D sridhar Babu, the minister of IT and Industries, responded to the BRS by saying that the state government is dedicated to the welfare of auto drivers. He also questioned the BRS's position on the program of free travel.
