Gunfire broke out at the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl triumph parade on Wednesday, turning an otherwise joyous occasion into a tragic one. One person was killed and at least twenty-one people, including children, were injured in the incident. Videos that went viral on social media during the mayhem demonstrated how courageous supporters tackled and subdued a man who was thought to be involved in the shooting.

The video, which went viral right after, shows onlookers pursuing and subduing the culprit. One of the people who said they tackled the shooter, Paul Contreras, described the dramatic scene to CNN. Contreras described how, with the assistance of a fellow guest, he removed the suspect's firearm from his hands and held him to the ground until the police could come. Regarding the shooter, Contreras stated, "He was fighting the whole time." "And we were fighting him to keep him down."

Three persons have been taken into custody by the Kansas City police in relation to the shooting, which happened in the middle of a gathering of almost a million supporters celebrating the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory west of Union Station. Those present, including the mayor of Kansas City and his family, ran for safety as a result of the gunfire.
Joe Biden made a call to action after the tragedy, imploring congress and the country to enact stronger gun control laws. Biden demanded in a statement that assault rifles be outlawed, restrictions placed on magazines with a large capacity, and more stringent background checks. The events of today ought to shock, move, and embarrass us into taking action. Why do we still have to wait? What more must we observe? "How many more families have to be shattered?" inquired Biden.
