Apple cancels E car project

Apple had been developing an electric vehicle for almost ten years that was expected to compete fiercely with Elon Musk's Tesla. The project started in 2014, and a lot has happened in the intervening years. But in an unexpected decision, the massive tech company headquartered in Cupertino has chosen to end the initiative. According to a Bloomberg story, about 2,000 people were working on the project; many of them will be moving to Apple's AI division, which will concentrate on generative AI projects.

One of the most ambitious projects in Apple's history has come to an end with the company's decision to abandon its ten-year endeavour to develop an electric vehicle, according to a Bloomberg article. Two thousand workers on the project were taken aback when the decision was announced internally on Tuesday, according to people with knowledge of the situation. Several well-known automakers, including Aston Martin, Lamborghini, BMW, and Porsche, contributed personnel to the project.

The Special Projects Group (SPG), led by Vice President Kevin Lynch and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, notified the group that the project would be coming to an end. Lynch will now report to john Giannandrea instead of Jeff Williams, as was the case in the past.

According to the article, executive john Giannandrea will be leading Apple's artificial intelligence business, which will receive a large number of the automobile team's staff members. Their priorities will change to generative AI initiatives in line with Apple's increasing emphasis on AI.

Around 2014, apple started working on a car project under the codename Titan. The goal was to create a completely autonomous electric car with cutting-edge features like voice-guided navigation and an interior reminiscent of a limousine.
