The devineni surname is quite popular in vijayawada and became well-known throughout the state following the creation of the TDP. In 1983, the first member of the Nehru family to enter politics was devineni Nehru. In the ap Assembly, he was a tdp candidate from the Kankipadu (later penamaluru post-delimitation) seat and won four times in a row (1983, 1985, 1989, 1994). devineni nehru moved to the lakshmi Parvathi group when ntr passed away, and then she joined the congress party.

In the meantime, his cousin brother devineni Venkata Ramana, a tdp candidate from Nandigama, won in 1994 and was sadly killed in a rail accident in 1999. devineni Umamaheswara Rao entered politics in the following bye-election. He has been the TDP's representative in every general election since 2004, first from Nandigama and then from the mylavaram seat.
Devineni Uma won four elections in a row (1999, 2004, 2009, 2014), however she lost in mylavaram in 2019. He is working to get a tdp ticket again right now. Interestingly, Devineni's candidature in the mylavaram sector is being opposed by the whole tdp cadre, including leaders in the krishna district. This pushback is a result of devineni Nehru's alleged prior transgression, when she disregarded the cadre while serving as a minister and MLA. There were complaints filed with the party leadership that devineni had not helped the cadre.
The current state of affairs is still influenced by these unfavourable opinions. Even though devineni and tdp President chandrababu naidu have a good relationship, the party leadership is unwilling to back him or identify a substitute group. The general election of 2024 will be the first without a devineni in the TDP's lineup if devineni uma is unable to obtain a ticket.
