Tollywood’s Genre 100 Cr Film: A Joke

G GOWTHAM
Malayalam film is renowned for its artists' technical mastery and sophisticated scripting. Additionally, their fans are renowned for supporting movies with a certain genre. The fact that their recent releases, including the box office successes Premalu and Manjummel Boys (their newest industry smash), have brought in well over Rs 100 crores suggests as much. Due to the popularity of these movies, there is a lot of discussion on social media about how tollywood would never be able to replicate the success of the malayalam film industry by producing successful genre-driven movies. However, this is easily dismissed as a joke, and here's why.

There is no denying that commercial films are the lifeblood of tollywood, and it is these films that have shaped the industry into what it is today. Baahubali 2, the greatest indian film ever released, is really produced by Tollywood. Salaar, RRR, and pushpa recently rocked the indian cinema business. There will be more releases in the future, including Kalki, Devara, pushpa 2, and Game Changer.

Though malayalam cinema may possess expertise in innovative filmmaking and genre-focused productions, Tollywood's main advantage is its commercial cinema output. One cannot argue that tollywood is incapable of producing genre blockbusters, simply because Malayam cinema created hits like as Premalu and Manjummel Boys.

There's no need to rush into making movies like Premalu and Manjummel Boys when the whole country of india is focusing on tollywood for its commercial blockbusters with broad appeal. It isn't that there is anything wrong with producing them, and occasionally we do witness these kinds of successful lighthearted comedies, but criticizing telugu cinema's ability to produce genre blockbusters is just absurd.
