Telangana Hyderabad - Locals raise a stink over shrinking RK Puram lake
RK Puram Lake, which had covered more than 100 acres during the Nizam era, is now reduced to 30 acres, according to locals. Only around 30% of the developmental work that was authorized under Mission Kakatiya Phase IV two years ago had been finished. The work was divided into two parts. The scarcity of labor and inadequate funding caused development to be suspended, leaving the remaining works unfinished. Because of this disregard, the whole lake region is becoming a rubbish yard, which is increasing the threat posed by mosquitoes.
"First of all, a road that was built directly through the lake to provide a shortcut for the colonies previously caused damage to half of the lake. The water's connection to the remaining portion of the lake was therefore severed. Because the responsible officials have not taken any action to remove the rubbish, the lake is currently being further degraded as a result of its dumping. Mukesh, an rk Puram resident, suggested that the lake be gated off by officials as it is unclear when the construction work will begin.
