India-Germany Clash: Democracy at Odds.!
Prior to this incident, germany had commented twice on India's internal affairs. Firstly, concerning the arrest of fact checker and journalist Mohammad Zubair, germany expressed concern over restrictions on independent reporting. Secondly, during congress leader rahul Gandhi's suspension, germany highlighted the application of judicial independence and democratic rules. In both instances, india asserted the independence of its judicial process and dismissed external commentary.
Germany's interference in India's internal affairs stems from its desire to champion democracy globally. As a country highly ranked for political rights and civil liberties, germany values democratic principles and aims to prevent democratic systems from faltering. Given its history with dictatorship under Hitler, germany is particularly sensitive to threats against democracy. Hence, it comments on political affairs in various countries, including india, to uphold democratic values and prevent authoritarianism.
