Mahua Moitra to skip Enforcement Directorate summons in forex case today
The central agency had twice called the 49-year-old former mp for interrogation. But she had also ignored such summonses, claiming official business. Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who is located in Dubai, were summoned by the investigation team once more on Wednesday, and they were asked to come in today.
Moitra is charged with mounting an attack on businessman gautam adani and prime minister Narendra Modi, among others, by asking questions in parliament in return for money and gifts from Hiranandani. After a complaint submitted by bjp mp Nishikant Dubey led to an investigation into the case, she was ejected from the lok sabha in December.
A few more international financial transfers and remittances, as well as transactions connected to a non-resident external (NRE) account, are reportedly being investigated by the investigative agency.
The cbi is also looking into the Trinamool politician in relation to the cash-for-query issue. Moitra and Hiranandani were accused by the cbi in a recent chargesheet with criminal conspiracy, offences pertaining to the bribery of public officers, and offences connected to abetment.
The cbi searched her West bengali home on saturday at the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal's request. She claimed that the cbi is "harassing" her and "throttling her election campaign efforts" in a letter to the election commission after the searches.
