Congress MLA's remark on BJP woman candidate sparks row

Shamanur Shivashankarappa, a karnataka congress mla, caused controversy with his divisive remarks on the BJP's lok sabha candidate running for the Davangere seat. Prabha Mallikarjun, the congress candidate for the seat, is his daughter-in-law, and the mla said that the bjp candidate "only knows how to cook in the kitchen" during his campaign.

The wife of Davangere mp GM Siddeshwara, gayathri Siddeshwara, has been nominated by the bjp to represent the party in the seat. Shamanur Shivashankarappa stated, "As you all know, she wanted to give a lotus flower to (PM) Modi by winning the elections," in reference to gayathri Siddeshwara. Let them first comprehend Davangere's issues. We have contributed to the region's growth. If you can communicate, that's one thing, but all they know how to do is cook. The opposing party is not strong enough to speak out."

The congress MLA's comment has prompted the bjp to file a complaint with the election Commission.

In response to Shivashankarappa's criticism of her, gayathri Siddeshwara asked what job women now do not pursue.

"He implied that we need to stick to the kitchen and cook alone. Which occupations do women not work in today? Even the sky is above us. The elderly guy is ignorant of the advancements made by women and the affection with which all women prepare meals for men, kids, and the elderly at home, Siddeshwara said.
