The city of
nizamabad experienced a high of 41.3 degrees Celsius on
friday afternoon, turning all of its main thoroughfares and
business districts into deserts as
people opted to stay inside. This summer's temperatures have been gradually rising in
nizamabad, and two deaths have occurred there already: Mohammad Ahmad Sharif, 30, of Nizamabad's Quilla area, and Ramavath Akhil, 5, of Donkal thanda in Indalwai mandal, died on
thursday from sunstroke.
In some areas of the
nizamabad district, the groundwater table is significantly declining in 15 mandals, signalling a worsening groundwater issue. Farmers and the general public are concerned about the groundwater level in these 15 mandals, which has averaged 12.28 metres. According to
district officials, in Pakala
village of Sirikonda mandal, the water which was 9.88 metres deep in
december last went down to 19.56 metres deep in
january and has now reached a depth of 30 metres.
Farmers in the region are fighting to salvage their Yasangi crops since the district's groundwater table has drastically decreased over the past 20 days. The groundwater table is fast decreasing in the following mandals: Mendora, Edappally, Mopal, Mupkal, Nandipet Velmal, Maclure Madanpally, Mendora, Gadkol, Thoompally, Thallapally, Mushirnagar, Ramannapet, and
chinna Walgot. Indeed, the groundwater in the mandals of Renjal Dupalli and Dandigutta has dropped to a depth of thirty metres.
