The Muslim minority was added to the state's OBC list by the Congress-led karnataka government in 1995, a move that prime minister narendra modi condemned. However, documents reveal that HD Deve Gowda's Janata Dal was the original organisation to carry out this reservation. Remarkably, the national democratic alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, now counts Deve Gowda's JD(S) as an ally.

At a rally in Madhya Pradesh, prime minister Modi called the congress the "biggest enemy of the OBCs" and said, "Religion-based reservation has been granted in karnataka by congress again by including all Muslim castes along with the OBCs through the backdoor." The OBC minority has lost a large chunk of the reserve as a result of this action." karnataka Chief minister Siddaramaiah swiftly responded, calling the accusation that the congress had "transferred" the reservation from backward castes to Muslims a "blatant lie".

Additionally, he questioned if previous prime minister Deve Gowda "surrender to narendra Modi" or continued to defend Muslim quotas, which he had introduced.

"Is Deve Gowda still standing by his position, given that he originally claimed to have implemented the Muslim reservation? Or will they yield to narendra modi and revert to their earlier position? Siddaramaiah stated, "He ought to clarify it for the state's citizens.
